The first step when designing a fashion logo, or any type of logo for that matter, is to take a look at the logos of the companies that are in direct competition with you. Look at what their idea is of an fashion logo design, look at what kind of costumers they have, do the costumers like that fashion logo design, etc.. You can also take a look at what the best fashion companies have for a logo. Everyone can remember the Nike logo, and everybody is curious to know the story behind that and other famous logo designs.
- Learn from the competition
Now you looking at other fashion logo designs does not mean you can just copy one of those logo designs, or just create some mashup of all the famous logo designs out there. By doing this you will learn what the popular tastes or design styles there are in the fashion industry and the types of logo designs therein.
Once you will get a sense of the competition you will have to define your brand. Are you vintage or modern or a mix of old-meets-new? Defining your business means defining your brand, which in turn means defining your fashion logo design.

Know that it is always best to stick to a single color, because most logos will end up reproduced in black and white anyway. Color should enforce the logo design, not define it.
The size of the logo design must be in such a way that it can be read when very small just as good when being very large, like on billboard ads.
